When we think of menopause, it’s always the most common symptoms that get the spotlight. Hot flushes and mood swings are two of the most well-known symptoms of both perimenopause and menopause. They are the ones we joke about with our friends and feel most comfortable chatting about. What about the many other symptoms? Perhaps you don’t even realise that specific issues are a result of menopause. Well, we’re about to shine the light on some of those least expected areas.
Urinary Incontinence
We all know it exists, but most of us assume it’s not a problem that you might have to deal with in your late 40’s or 50’s. The truth is, urinary incontinence is not simply caused by ageing, but is, in fact, a direct result of hormonal reductions. It’s also known as ‘stress incontinence’ because it typically happens when you exert yourself. That could simply be through sneezing or coughing but can also include heavy lifting or certain exercises. There are no two ways about it, it can be very embarrassing! Even if no one is aware but yourself.
The reduction in estrogen causes your vaginal tissue to lose elasticity and the lining of your urethra thins. On top of this, your pelvic floor that controls your bladder weakens as estrogen diminishes. So, is it normal? Yes! Does it happen to more people then you might think? Absolutely!
Hair Loss
Hair loss is a scary one to see on the list. Don’t worry though, unlike agwing men, in women, hair tends to thin all over as opposed to falling out leaving bald spots. Again this is a result of diminishing estrogen and progesterone. Hair also grows much slower without these hormones and it can become quite dull looking too. Of course, it’s important to note that hair loss can be a result of other things too; nutritional deficiencies or stress for example. Staying hydrated and eating a balanced diet containing fatty acids may help.
Vaginal Dryness
Another symptom that is discussed far less frequently than others is, of course, vaginal dryness. This symptom can vary: Some women only find issues with this during intercourse, whereas for others it can be uncomfortable at various different times. Signs of dryness include itching, burning, or just general irritation. Understandably this can make sex very unenjoyable and therefore reduce your sex drive. Using a lubrication during intercourse is advised. This can ease the discomfort but it does not tackle the root cause of the problem. As estrogen and progesterone reduce and are eventually eliminated, this causes an unbalance of you ANS (autonomic nervous system).
The LaBalance device may help with the above areas by re-balancing the ANS. Many women have reported benefits across these three areas and up to 24 different symptoms of menopause, after wearing LaBalance 24/7 for 3 full months.
